Taalhammer help

You learn from the collections in your Favourites. How to choose and mix them is covered in the next chapters. If you are new to Taalhammer, watch the short video "Why Taalhammer works" first. It gives a quick tour of the whole app: the Creator, Learn, Listen and the collection catalogue.

1 Introduction: learning a language with Taalhammer

This chapter is about the everyday work of learning in Taalhammer. You will see how the app brings in new material and then tests you on it, why you rate your own answers, and why going back over what you already know gets you further than piling on new words.

2 The basics of effective learning

Three habits make the biggest difference to how fast you learn a language: learning whole sentences rather than single words, choosing carefully what you learn, and mixing different kinds of material. This chapter shows how Taalhammer supports each of them: how to find a collection in the catalogue, how to arrange your Favourites, and what the Core collections bring into your sessions along the way.

3 Listening comprehension

This chapter is about listening: how to practise listening comprehension in Taalhammer, how to adjust the exercise to suit you, where the material you hear comes from, and how to listen to real radio in the language you are learning. You can do all of it on the move, without looking at the screen.

4 More listening practice

This chapter covers two kinds of listening material made just for you: the sentences you add yourself in the Creator, and short stories that AI writes from your own words.

5 The AI Creator

The words you meet in your own life are the ones you most want to say, and they are rarely in a ready-made course. This chapter is about the Creator, where you make your own flashcards, look words up as in a dictionary and collect what you want to learn. You will see how to save a flashcard, how to use the suggestions, what the active collection is and how to add your own content, including from a file.

6 Creating, importing and editing your collections

The material you care about most is often the material you put together yourself. This chapter shows how to build your own collections: start an empty one, generate one with AI, correct it, and import one from Anki or a spreadsheet. You will also see how to turn any text into a story to listen to and look through its verbs.

7 Languages, topics and content

What you learn matters as much as how often you learn it. Words from a topic you care about stay with you, and a course that fits your level keeps you moving instead of stuck. This chapter is about what your learning is made of: which collections are in your Favourites and in what proportion, how to add a new collection from the catalogue, how Core and topic collections differ, and how to learn more than one language at once. At the end you will see which languages Taalhammer supports.

8 Your account, repetitions, statistics and subscription

Learning a language takes months, and in that time life gets in the way: a week away, a busy stretch, a change of plans. This chapter is about what happens around the learning itself: how to keep your repetitions under control when they pile up, where to see your statistics, how to upgrade to a paid plan, how to cancel a subscription and how to delete your account if you ever want to leave.
